Starlink Mini vs Starlink V2 for Live Streaming and Live Events
Part 1 of a 3-part field test. In this video I run baseline speed tests on Starlink Mini and Starlink V2 in the same location to establish a practical starting point before we attempt real 1080p streaming to Vimeo.
Why live streaming needs more than “fast internet”
For live event streaming, download speed is not the headline. What matters most is upload, consistency over time, latency stability, and how the connection behaves under sustained load. Speed tests do not prove a stream will succeed, but they help establish a baseline before running real camera-to-platform streaming tests.
For reference, Starlink hardware details are available on Starlink.com .
- Same rooftop location in San Diego
- Same laptop and Speedtest.net for baseline checks
- Three consecutive tests per device
- Starlink app speed test for additional diagnostics
- Devices: Starlink Mini and Starlink V2
Key takeaways from Part 1
What’s next in the series
Part 2 moves beyond speed tests. I will connect Starlink to the live production chain and test actual 1080p streaming to Vimeo, focusing on stability, bitrate behavior, dropped frames, and recovery when conditions change.
